GCC: Calas [Sweet Fried Rice Fritters]

Since it rain non-stopped this past Sunday, we were stuck at home and I had plenty of time on my hands. The only way I was going to curve the “cabin fever” was to keep busy and so I decided to make three recipes in this week Gutsy Cooks recipe line up.

This one is the first.  I will post the other two tomorrow and Tuesday.

When I took a look at our choices, I originally wanted to make the savory Italian Arancini, which holds a special place in my heart since they remind me of my time living in Sicily while working as an Au pair. But, then I thought, why not try something completely new, something that I really never tasted before?

And that is when I turned to the other choice in our list – Calas, which are sweet Fried Rice Fritters from the French Quarter in New Orleans.

I just could not go wrong with this.

Fried batter - is there anything better in life? (besides Nutella, or course).

Snap Thursday - Dreamy

Do you know what it is?

Perspective, tricky thing right?

This was taken on a walk thru the park.  Now that the weather has cooled off (as much as I can in sunny Florida) Tom and I had made it a mission to totally enjoy it, so we after we come home from work, we jump in the car and drive to the nearest park to simply take a stroll, be one with nature, enjoy the cool temperatures and make sure the bugs don’t get us.

Since I’m trying new things with the camera, I become quite inventive.

For this shot, I stood under a tree full of hanging moss and pointed up, without even looking at the viewfinder and simply snapped pictures.  The camera was in “P” mode and when we saw it, we were quite amazed how different things so ordinary can look so kick in the butt great when you see them in a different perspective.

This picture takes me to a dreamy place.

Nescafe Dolce Gusto Foodie Feed Up Event

A couple of weeks ago, a fellow Tampa Blogger, Leslie from The Hungry Housewife posted on facebook an upcoming Foodie Feed Up event in Tampa.

NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto was hosting 8 Foodie Feed Ups around the country for bloggers to check out some of their local chefs’ favorite dishes and also try their yummy new coffee line and they were coming to Tampa.

They’ve already hit up Cleveland and New York City; by the time they came to Tampa and next up, they were headed to Chicago, Seattle, Houston, LA and Denver.

Five fellow bloggers along with myself jumped at the chance to experience this affair at Restaurant BT on a quiet Monday night.
