Photography Workshop and oh, yeah The Food Blog Forum Conference in Orlando

Last weekend I did not see the inside of my kitchen.  Instead, I was in sunny Orlando, eating huge amounts of food provided by great sponsors like Whole Foods Markets and McCormick & Schmick’s, learning a tons of things from industry recognized stars and meeting the most welcoming group of people I have ever meet.

If you were not following my tweets throughout the weekend, then you would not have known that I was attending the third Food Blog Forum Conference which took place in my home state.

ABC: Zebra Cookies

We are back to our monthly ABC choice.  This time it was cookies.  Out of all the desserts out there cookies are not high on my list of likes (not like fruit desserts), unlike Tom and the little man that love them.

Since we been eating cake for the past months, this was a change of pace, and was looking forward to them.  Plus as soon as I said cookies were in the baking list over the weekend, the house erupted in cheers.

Me thinks there was an itsy-bitsy hint in there somewhere…

Once more I wish that this book would have more pictures with it’s recipes, it’s hard to “visualize” the end product and while Flo’s instructions are super detail, sometimes it’s just too much and I get lost in translation with them.

I had to read the steps more than a couple of times before I fully comprehended how to set the dough up in order to have them come out with the perfect zebra stripes.

HCB: Karmel Cake

As I write this, I’m having the last piece of this cake.

Yep, we finish this off already.  It’s that good.

I got to be honest, when I saw this recipe in the book; I was not “wowed” by it at all.  It just seem like any other plain cake – no big deal.

I should have knows that Rose does not do “no big deal” - every single cake is a big deal and this one is one of those.  Hidden in its simplicity your end results is a stand out cake, it does not even need frosting or cream or anything - Rose does recomend to serve it with some coffee cream, I recomend to eat it plain because sometimes plain is good for the soul - this is one of those times.
