Every bite of food should be a sweet bite
Not long ago, few knew what a kouign amann was or how good it tastes. If you did, you likely raved about the buttery Breton pastry—between a croissant and brioche with caramelized sugar on top—and complained it was hard to find outside Brittany. Making it at home is possible but not easy, as I found when testing Rose’s recipe.
This is a new month of recipes for the Gutsy Cooks and with it comes a new set of recipes for us to show our gutsiness on. June belongs to Steph, from Orangespoken and boy has she brought her “A” game.
She started us off with a sentimental pick. Her mom’s favorite snack, one that tugs at my heart every time I read her recap.
There’s not a person in the world who doesn’t love brunch. But you know who loves it the most? Ladies. Chicks. Gals. Women. Whatever you call us, we’re obsessed with brunch. I’m not saying that guys cannot be found partaking in this ritual, but let’s be honest; a pack of ladies yapping away over French toast and eggs is more common.
I can write all the reasons why I love brunch and let me tell you there are many… Who can say no to the pastries, quiches, frittatas, eggs benedict or sandwiches, and crispy bacon of the breakfast world? Not to mention the opportunity of having fancy drinks (I’m looking at you champagne!) during the morning hours, on a Sunday no less, while sharing the latest war stories with your girlfriends.
